Dennis Overeem

Dennis Overeem is a writer, director, and actor based in Amsterdam. Through film, theatre, and visual storytelling, he supports House of Alpha’s narrative development and audiovisual projects.

Born in Amsterdam in 1971, he has played leading roles in several comedy television series, including Sophie’s Web, Bitches, Samen, and Suzanne en de Mannen, as well as in films such as Unwanted, Kosovo’s submission for the 2018 Oscars, and Aline, which won him Best Actor at the 48 Hour Film Festival. He has also appeared in theatre productions including De Jantjes, with a nomination for Best Leading Actor at the Johnny Kraaijkamp Musical Awards.

Together with actress Dewi Reijs, Dennis co-founded the Buddy Film Foundation. It connects refugee film professionals with Dutch industry professionals, helping them find paid work in their field through workshops, networking with producers, and collaborative productions.

From 1999 he worked for ten years as a casting director at Kemna Casting, casting over 200 commercials, working on GTST, and contributing to national and international productions including Mitra, Deuce Bigalow: European Gigolo, Brüno, Amphibious 3D, Inundation, Tender Threads, and Land van Johan. He wrote and directed three series: Gooische Frieten, the first Dutch series made specifically for an online platform, Fashion Planet, and Sophie’s Web, in which he also played a lead role.

He directed three short films: Viskom, BAM, and FUK IT. BAM was selected for 19 international festivals, including the Netherlands Film Festival, and won Best Film in Spain, third place for Best Film in Canada, and Best Production Design in Los Angeles.
